5 Seconds Of Summer Light Up The Armory

As I find myself settling into the start of fall, it seems like the days have begun to come and go even faster than they did this summer. I thought it’d be a good idea to take some time off from what has been my crazy schedule for the last month and spending some time in a dark  venue. The last time Australian pop-rock band, 5 Seconds of Summer aka 5SOS, was in town, it stormed all day. Against the odd the sold out show went on as planned. This time around the guys took to a bigger venue, The Armory, giving more fans the opportunity to attend.

Opening the night was The Aces, an all american girl band from Utah. This quartet has been making a big wave in the last year. Since this time last year these ladies have performed in Minnesota four times opening for acts such as Coin, Joywave, The X Ambassadors and now with 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS). I first saw this group back in February when they opened of Coin at the Fine Line Music Cafe. Since then I haven’t been able to get them out of my head. The Aces took the stage and quickly won the audience over. Everywhere I looked people where dancing and enjoy themselves. The Aces’ set last about 45 minutes and left everyone with excitement for the main act.

After a hot pretzel and a quick change over the lights dropped and the crowd erupted as the the four members took to the stage. Without a second thought the band began their hour and a half set. This was my first seeing 5SOS live. I had heard them on the radio and quite frequently found myself singing along. After the first two songs, I was engulfed in the entire atmosphere that the guys filled The Armory with.

In all honesty, I was a little concerned when I heard 5SOS would be playing The Armory, an 8,400 capacity venue. I mean, it has been three years since there last album and big tour. I’m happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the crowd inside. From kids to parents the venue was filled with people who were there to support the band. The three years it took to create and release their album “Youngblood” was worth the wait. With a new more mature sound 5 Seconds of Summer is gaining more recognition for their music.

Sunday night’s show was one of the better shows I have been in the last few months. It was a perfect was to for my summer to end (no pun intended).
