So it’s safe to say that 2017 is off to a bit of a bizarre start. With all the craziness in the world right now, one thing we can all find solace in is great music. And 2017 is already shaking out to be a good year for music with plenty of fresh new artists giving us excitement and hope for the future. One of those artists is Los Angeles based, WVM. And we mean artist is every sense of the word – WVM is an electronic musician, visual artist, and multi-instrumentalist.
Just last week WVM released his infectious new single Sown and it’s just what the doctor ordered for a time that can often feel like the twilight zone – it’s dancey, it’s fun, it’s upbeat, a song to escape to. It’s a song you’re going to want to add to your weekend playlist, perfect for pre-gaming a night out with friends or just kicking back at home.
But don’t be deceived, there’s much more to Sown than just another fun dance track. As we all know, 2016 kind of sucked (in more ways than one), taking from us the greats such as Bowie and Prince, but WVM is definitely keeping their legacy alive on this track. The influence of those who’ve gone before is evident on this track, along with synth-pop gods Daft Punk or New Order. But at the same time, the product is still something completely unique, fresh and all it’s own. In his own words, WVM says, “Sown gets a lot of its inspiration from 80s Bowie and Peter Gabriel with a lot of early Prince…. but mostly it’s just the music I want to hear, a lot of my heart and soul went into it which is why it really doesn’t sound like any other artist other than me.”
In a musical world sometimes saturated with electronic and synth-driven bands, WVM stands out as something fresh, something exciting. Sown left us wanting more and eager to see what he does next. Give Sown a listen below.
