Hometown duo and Red Bull Sound Select artist Kill the Vultures, consisting of rapper Crescent Moon and producer Anatomy, are known for their nocturnal, urban sound, which is undeniably avant garde, yet rooted in the traditions of hip hop. In addition to their American fan base, Kill the Vultures have cultivated a strong following in Europe, where they have headlined five tours, garnered praise from Rolling Stone. Their debut release also received high praise from US outlets, including Salon.com, who dubbed it “best underground rap album they heard this year.”
Known as the “Afrocentric heirs of the Minneapolis sound,” ZULUZULUU have been a hometown staple for almost four years, made up of six members, four of which will joining the line-up this September. MMYYKK, Trelly Mo and Proper T work to create the sounds of this group, which incorporates synths, rhythms, and a team of vocalists to give funk from the 70s a modern update.
Closing out the performance, Seattle rapper Porter Ray stems from the same wet blocks that spawned Quincy, Jimi and Ishmael. Having previously penned six projects showcasing dexterous wordplay, honesty and vulnerability, this Red Bull Sound Select artist is an old soul, a true story teller and possesses insight beyond his years.
