Kaki King returns to Minneapolis this September after a short time away, last playing in the Twin Cities in February, with opener Derek Gripper. She will be at the Dakota Jazz Club on 9/5. Tickets are still available HERE
Kaki King is most notably known in the mainstream for her contributions to soundtracks such as August Rush and Into the Wild has a genre which many consider all her own. Having first thought herself to be a drummer when finding her “voice” in the music world she played drums from the age of 4 through high school but eventually found her calling in a style which is unlike any other. The closest one may come to finding a similar sound may be an acoustic guitarist such as Andy McKee but still, Kaki stands alone in her fusion of slap, american acoustic, and traditional styles. The intimate setting of Dakota Jazz Club and the sensational passion with which Kaki plays will make for one special night as she revisits old music and undoubtedly work from her last album, The Neck is the Bridge to the Body.
