From the official press release:

The Valkyrie Music Collective was founded by Vicky Emerson, Annie Fitzgerald, Sarah Morris, Jess Rau, and Haley Rydell who are friends, colleagues, and fierce advocates for women of all gender, racial, and sexual identities who have joined together in an effort to increase women’s power in the music industry.

On Friday, May 1st, the Valkyrie Music Collective will present Festival of the Valkyries; a free, all day, online music festival featuring a lineup of all local Minnesota women, queer women, and trans women.

“The idea for the Collective has been hatching for a few years as we have been meeting to brainstorm ways to ignite the power of women in the music industry” said Vicky Emerson, a local musician and Valkyrie founding member. “We were gaining momentum in January when the pandemic hit. Instead of letting grass grow underneath our feet, we decided to use the technology available and turn to an online platform as a way to empower women, curating a live streaming festival. We have been very inspired by the response to the Festival of the Valkyries launch today. Emails and offers of support and help have been coming in from across Minnesota! The Collective is forming itself, and that is really the dream.”

The day will begin at 8:30AM with a morning dance party set by DJ Michel.Be followed by Heather Corndorf, founder and owner of mXe, providing a short opening ceremony session. At 9:15am a panel discussion moderated by Vicky Emerson will focus on the challenges and future solutions of working in the masculine/male dominated music industry. At 10:30am, following the panel discussion, Andrea Swensson, host of The Current’s ‘Local Show’ and author of Got to be Something Here: The Rise of the Minneapolis Sound will make a keynote address. After the online conference portion of the festival, ‘Live’ Facebook performances will begin with a scheduled lineup of 25 incredible Minnesota acts hosted on @valkyriemusicco Facebook page.  Timing for each performance will be updated on the Facebook event page.
