In the legendary voice of Yoda, “The Metal is strong with this one” … the quote could never be more true! The Metal scene throughout Minnesota seems to continually gain strength and build momentum. As the final month of summer hits its mid point, there is no better way to spend part of the weekend, than to come together and enjoy some serious music packed with multiple local Metal bands. Hold on tight, as the Top Secret Metal Fest IV is coming Saturday, August 18th.
In its 4th year running, this year’s Top Secret Metal Fest is lining up to hit incredible marks in the Minnesota Metal scene. At the center of organizing the event is the creative eyes of DJ Gunnarson, guitarist for Buried Above Ground. DJ recently explained how the Top Secret Metal Fest idea started, “I wanted to create an event that wasn’t about where it was held, what time your friend’s band played, who else was attending, or any other surface reason people go to shows. With so many bands from all sides of the metal spectrum doing great things, I thought it was dumb that the same 5 to 10 bands played together all the time, and seemed to stick within their specific genre’s self confined box”. He went on to say, “There are literally tons of great bands here in the Twin Cities, and they never seem to play shows together. We need all the bands in metal, regardless of subgenre, to get along and work together.” The idea of the Metal Fest really was “an opportunity to blend some metal genres on the same bill, bring a ton of bands together to make a great day of local music, and to meet and network with each other to help grow the hard working bands and the scene over the following year. I know a lot of people, bands, and artists who started working together, or met each other at the Top Secret Metal Fest. It’s been a really positive experience for the community and I hope that it’s positive influence can continue to help shape the metal scene, and bring light to some of the up and coming hard working metal bands that reside in the Twin Cities.” He finished off by stating, “I truly believe we have one of the strongest metal communities in the country, and I’m proud to do my part to help it stay that way.”
As you can see, the event is simply not just a music festival. It is about coming together to see a HUGE line up of great bands, hang out with friends, and support the local music scene. On the line up this year:
