One of the things I love about the holiday season is bands trying to offer up something new. The Turf Club’s Singles Going Steady appears to fall into that category. It promises to be a night mixing a lot of fun with some great new music. Tickets and details found HERE.
Ryan and Pony Smith are Twin City music fixtures. Whether fronting their own band The Melismatics, which recently hosted the 2018 Replacements Tribute Show or as part of Soul Asylum, this husband and wife duo are a couple of the Cities’ best. This is a new incarnation and allows them some additional freedom to do some new things.
Their new single Fast As You Can drops December 14. Enjoy the video.
Supporting Ryan and Pony is Benjamin Cartel, founder of the new York indie rock band Kaiser Cartel. The band has been on extended hiatus but Benjamin has been doing his own solo thing. He’s an artist who has a history with Ryan and Pony as well as fellow bill mate Kris Gruen.
Opening the evening is the intriguing new band Saint Small. I’m particularly interested in catching them live. Saint Small recently was the subject of a TCM feature as a band you should know.
The night is called Singles Going Steady and that’s exactly what’s going to happen. Why bother with an album release? Instead, each of the acts is gearing up to release a couple of new singles. After all, isn’t that how things are being done these days in a Spotify world?
Local acts Revenge Wedding and Kris Gruen will take to the Clown Lounge stage during the breaks breaks between bands upstairs.
This promises to be a party.
