Robert Cray has been bridging the lines between blues, soul, and R&B for the past four decades, with five Grammy wins and over 20 acclaimed albums. For his latest project, Robert Cray & Hi Rhythm (April 28 / Jay-Vee Records), the Blues Hall of Famer traveled to Memphis with his friend, renowned Grammy Award-winning producer Steve Jordan, to make a classic soul album with Hi Rhythm, the band that helped create that sound.
Cray has performed at the Crossroads Guitar festival supporting Eric Clapton’s world tour in 2006-2007 and continues to record and tour. In 1990, Cray performed with Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan, and Stevie Ray Vaughan at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in Wisconsin performing “Sweet Home Chicago”. This was Stevie Ray Vaughan’s last performance and was killed in a helicopter crash that evening.
Robert Cray will be joined by Paul Metsa and Sonny Earl at the Weesner Family Amphitheater at the Minnesota Zoo, August 28, as part of the Music in the Zoo summer concert series. There still are some tickets available here.
Paul Metsa is a legendary Minneapolis musician, who started playing in the 1980s with his band Cats Under the Stars, and over the years has won eight Minnesota Music Awards.
Music in the Zoo is an iconic summer concert series located in the Twin Cities, celebrating national headliners, and up-and-coming artists. The intimate venue offers an enhanced experience. This year marks the 27th year of this MN tradition.
