If you’re looking to get down and funky and looking for a reason to dust off those dancing shoes, be at The Turf Club on Friday, July 16th for the Purple Funk Metropolis show!

Purple Funk Metropolis is a charismatic six-piece instrumental band with a lively sound inspired by rock, jazz, funk, and old-school soul. With driving melodies at the forefront of the groove they build the party from the ground up with every performance. Whether in a Como basement or a downtown dive bar, Purple Funk’s energy notoriously gets the whole room dancing.

From the raw energy of Morsels (May 2017) to the explosive, vintage sounds of Mumbojumbotron(July 2018) and the artisan-woven Magic Carpet(December 2018), the many flavors of Purple Funk leave your palette cleansed and thirsty for more. Currently in the studio working on new tunes, rest assured PFM is always keeping it silly, keeping it light, keeping it funky, keeping it tight.

Get there early to catch Honeybutter. Although I don’t know much about these guys, I’m stoked to check them out. These three pieces of toast—Zak Khan on guitar/production, Clara Wicklund on vocals/bass, and Andreas Fenner on vocals/keys—are multigrain babes: Acoustically-rooted, leavened by jazz, and baked to a perfect Honeybutter golden brown.

With the velvety romance of old cinema, they mix Brazilian guitar, honeyed vocals, and homemade percussion to make music that’s earth-bound and timeless. Their songs are dreamy and familiar: set in Minnesota’s harsh landscape, where the trio’s songwriting takes place, they’re warmth and sugar on a cold winter day. Eat them for breakfast.

Local band Sass will be kicking the night off.
