Looking for something heavy to check out this spring? Stop by The Turf Clu on May 3rd for the Napalm Death show!

Continuing the fearless exploration of their legendary sound’s outer limits, UK’s Grindcore pioneers NAPALM DEATH return with Resentment is Always Seismic – a final throw of Throes, a partner recording to their much-acclaimed Throes Of Joy In The Jaws Of Defeatism album from 2020. Concluding matters through vital, tumultuous Grindcore and shockwave ambience, this 8-track mini-album with all previously unreleased material – including Bad Brains and SLAB! cover versions.

Napalm Death are credited as pioneers of the grindcore genre by incorporating elements of crust punk and death metal, using a noise-filled sound that uses heavily distorted, down-tuned guitars, grinding overdrive bass, high-speed tempo, blast beats, and vocals which consist of incomprehensible growls, or high-pitched shrieks, extremely short songs, fast tempos, and sociopolitical lyrics.

Even after exerting an indelible influence on the entire world of heavy music for nearly 40 years, there is still no band on Earth that sounds like Napalm Death. Not just the pioneers, but an enduring benchmark for invention and fearlessness in heavy and experimental music of all kinds, the Birmingham legends are still hurtling forward at full pelt.

Pig Destroyer will also be playing this show! It’s been 17 years since Jennifer playfully wrestled her friend to the ground in front of the snow cone stand. Nearly two decades on, the deeply unsettling introduction to Pig Destroyer’s Prowler In The Yard is like a dog whistle for grind fanatics everywhere. The band’s snarling 2001 album also happened to be their Relapse debut and their first real introduction to a global audience. It’s since been inducted into Decibel magazine’s hallowed Hall Of Fame—a long-running institution celebrating the creation of extreme metal’s greatest albums. It’s also a fucking masterpiece.

Kicking things off is Sunless. Formed in 2015, the Minneapolis-based dissonant death metal trio SUNLESS draws influence from pioneers of extreme and dissonant metal such as Gorguts, Ulcerate, and Meshuggah, reinterpreting the sounds through an abstract lens that is all their own. Comprised of bassist Mitch Schooler (Nerves, Modulus), drummer Taylor Hamel (Aziza), and guitarist/vocalist Lucas Scott (Obsolete, Australis, Pestifere), the band features a prominent rhythm section, a scattered assortment of time signatures, interwoven and complex arrangements, and bellowing death growls, akin to the output of Artificial Brain, Baring Teeth, and Pyrrhon.
