Afghan Whigs Performing At First Avenue Mainroom 9/21

The Afghan Whigs are taking over First Avenue Mainroom on Thursday, September 21st. To say these guys bridge the gaps of multiple genres would be an understatement. Pulling from garage rock, R&B,  straight up rock, and even punk– these guys have a sound unlike any other. Beyond that, they have become a major influence for many bands that have come after them. They have released eight albums including their newest release “In Spades” which just came out earlier this year. Although they promised after a 2001 breakup that they would never get back together as a band, many people were happy to see them reunite for good in 2011. Although many years had passed since their breakup, it seemed as if nothing had changed with this band and they came back sounding better than ever. Their dark lyrics mixed with their not so dark music create an atmosphere that is confusing to the point of intriguing. Although they have been around since the 1980’s, this will be my first time catching them live and I am more than excited to see this legendary group.

Opening up the show will be local favorite Har Mar Superstar. If you live in the Twin Cities and don’t know who Har Mar is– you’re doing something wrong. Beyond just a local favorite, Har Mar is a personal favorite of mine and being able to see him opening for an act as influential as The Afghan Whigs is just the icing on the cake!

Tickets are still available here.
