The Dandy Warhols Are Returning To First Avenue On 5/12

With many bands touring to mark anniversaries, I find myself torn. On one hand, how cool is it that a band like the Dandy Warhols have been around for 25 years? On the other, WAIT I’m that old 🙁 ? Has it truly been been almost  20 years since “Bohemian Like You” took over the airwaves?

Rest assured, the Dandy Warhols are not sitting around in some retirement home. They released a new album “Why You So Crazy” earlier this year and are kicking off a tour that will bring them to First Avenue on May 12. Some tickets are still available HERE

Supporting them will be Cosmonauts and DJ Jake Rudh

“The weirdest thing about it being ‎our 25th anniversary is it doesn’t feel like 25 years. Feels like about six. Or five,” muses frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor. Keyboardist/bassist Zia McCabe can’t help but wonder about the complications of building a set list around an entire career as opposed to an individual album; “Oh man, how are we going to fit something from each album into our set? Don’t worry, we’ll figure it out and it will be legendary. Get ready for a massive concussion of rock and roll that’s been a quarter of a century in the making.”

Whether you dig them gritty or glittery, their recently-released new album ‘Why You So Crazy’, delivers on all fronts, careening through classically off-kilter psych-pop (‘Be Alright’), high country-fried Americana (‘Motor City Steel’), and gothic piano-propelled rumbas (‘Forever’). Packing in references as far flung as Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Don MacLean’s Chevy, and the church of Bowie’s ‘Modern Love,’ these 12 songs reflect the band’s surrealist visions of an alternate reality.
