There are bands and then there are bands. The Flaming Lips, perhaps one of the most iconic bands of our generation, definitely falls in the later category. The Flaming Lips have been making music for nearly three decades now, and it’s safe to say they sure have come along way from their early days as a band in Oklahoma City. The band released their fourteenth, yes you read that right, fourteenth album earlier this year entitled Oczy Mlody.
From the music itself to over-the-top theatrics and frontman Wayne Coyne’s zany persona, The Flaming Lips are not just a band to be listened to, but rather – experienced. So back to that zany personality thing – touring with The Flaming Lips is indie’s laid-back, weirdo darling, Mac DeMarco. Though DeMarco has only been alive as long as The Flaming Lips have been making music, he’s already created quite the name for himself. 2017 saw the release of DeMarco’s third full-length album This Old Dog, to warm reception. DeMarco received rave reviews from the likes of The New York Times, NPR and Pitchfork. DeMarcos’ off the wall, fratty prankster sense of humor has served him well in recent years – building an almost cult like following. At this rate, it doesn’t seem to far fetched that DeMarco might be releasing his own fourteenth album one day.
