Soccer Mommy Slays on Tour

This week, Soccer Mommy (a.k.a. Sophie Allison) took over First Avenue in Minneapolis for an unforgettable night of indie rock magic. The night kicked off with Hana Vu, whose dreamy, introspective sound set a mellow vibe for the crowd. Her set was a perfect warm-up, with haunting vocals and chill, atmospheric tunes that had everyone hooked right from the start.

When Soccer Mommy hit the stage, the energy completely shifted. The band dove into tracks from their latest album, Evergreen, but of course, classics like "Your Dog" got the loudest cheers. The crowd was totally vibing with every note. One of the most memorable moments was during "Lost," where it felt like a quiet, intimate show with just the band and the audience. The encore, which included "Changes" and "Don't Ask Me," was the perfect send-off. First Avenue's legendary atmosphere gave the whole show a personal, close-knit feel, making it clear that Soccer Mommy’s fan base just keeps growing. The night was a solid reminder of why she’s one of indie’s most exciting artists right now.

It would be remiss to not mention her awesome opener, Hana Vu and her nostalgic sound. She kicked off the evening by expressing her gratitude to all of her fans for coming out. Hana mentioned this was her second time back in Minneapolis, but first time playing First Avenue. Some audience members knew every word to her songs, while some were clearly new to her music and falling in love with her sound.

Every note felt personal, with Sophie taking time to interact with the crowd between songs, adding to the sense of community. The setlist was a beautiful mix of old hits and new tracks, ensuring that fans from all eras of the band’s journey were fully engaged. Overall, Soccer Mommy delivered a performance that showcased not just their musical prowess, but the emotional depth that’s made them a standout in today’s indie scene. It was evident that the Minneapolis indie scene truly appreciated Soccer Mommy stopping at First Avenue tonight, and the exchange between the crowd and Soccer Mommy was so intentional and welcoming. Hopefully she will back on her next tour!
