Zella Day has been on a hot streak in 2015. “Hypnotic” became a staple of AltNation on satellite radio, and her current single “High” earned her an appearance on Conan. Her album “Kicker” was release last month.
Supporting her new record, Day’s tour stopped at the intimate 7th Street Entry. For once there was actually some breathing room in the back of the small venue. Not because the Entry wasn’t packed but because many of her fans are small statured young women who pressed against the stage freeing up some room. Zella Day has garnered an impressively dedicated fan base.
She is being marketed as a pop act but seeing her live proves she is a serious songwriter and performer rather than an auto tuned pop princess. She greeted the crowd with “Hello Babies!” and her interaction with her fans made the evening special for them. Day credits her fans with helping her transition from her native Arizona to LA.
Overall I found Zella Day set to be impressive and expect to see quite a bit more of her.
