What’s A Monday Without A Little Party? Sofi Tukker At First Avenue.

My first thought as I walked into First Ave last night was “Oh. look there’s another old guy” – in my defense, I am an old guy and used to being way above average in age range at many shows. As I made my way closer to the stage I was surprised at the range of age groups in the crowd. Clearly Sofi Tukker has a wider fan base than I expected.

Mary Droppinz’s set was already underway when I arrived.

The next DJ set was by LP Giobbi

I ducked out for a quick bite at the Depot and was not expecting who would welcome me back back – Bob’s Dance Shop put on a quick show to get fans ready for the headliner. Their fun, raunchous dance routine brought a smile to my (and the audience’s) face.

I have enjoyed Sofi Tukker’s music for a while, and was looking forward to seeing them live. Their current WET TENNIS tour is actually an acronym “When Everyone Tries to Evolve, Nothing Negative Is Safe”. The band’s spirit is as inclusive as their music with room for influences from many genres.
From the moment they hit the stage, their energy was infectious. There was constant movement and if you took your eyes away for a moment, you were likely to miss a cool moment.
Bob’s Dance Shop joined in on stage, and Sophie at one point moved to a raised beach chair in First Avenue’s owner’s lounge.
It may have been a Monday, but the party mood at First Ave rivaled any Friday or Saturday night.
