Minneapolis band We are the Willows is celebrating the release of their new album Picture (Portrait) Part 2 this Saturday at the Icehouse. Composed of Peter Michael Miller, Jeremiah Satterthwaite, Leah Ottman, Stephen Lindquist, Travis Collins, and Hilary James the six-piece band describes their music as Orchestral Indie Rock.

Since the release of Picture (Portrait) Part 1, We Are The Willows have toured across North America, playing dates with the likes of Blitzen Trapper, PHOX and S. Carey. The band have appeared at music festivals including Treefort and SXSW 2015 and 2016, where they performed on multiple showcases. Past efforts from We Are The Willows have received kind words and attention from the likes of Magnet Magazine, local NPR affiliate 89.3 The Current, Minneapolis City Pages, Daytrotter, and PASTE Magazine, who named them a Minnesota band to watch.
There is a very interesting background story to Picture (Portrait) Part 1 and 2. Derived from a series of 350 letters written by songwriter/frontman Miller’s grandfather to his grandmother while he was stationed in the Southwest Pacific during World War II, their correspondence inspired Miller to explore themes of family, separation, life, death, and identity in a time of national and personal crisis.
