Bent Knee will be taking over the Entry on Tuesday, July 10th as part of their ‘The Paper Earth Tour’. Bent Knee is unlike any band you’ve ever heard. Its borderless sound combines myriad influences from across the rock, pop, minimalist, and avant-garde spectrums into a seamless, thrilling whole. Its new album Land Animal—Bent Knee’s first for InsideOut/Sony—takes its sound to a new level. It offers a suite of songs full of addictive hooks, lush melodies and enthralling twists and turns that capture the reality of life in the 21st Century—a reality of people and nations in the midst of tumultuous change. It also communicates a ray of hope and desire for listeners to embrace the fact that they’re not alone in their struggles.
“The silo-smashing Bent Knee’s unique mix is equal parts ingenuity and deliciousness,” said Jim Fusilli of the Wall Street Journal in 2016 when he first heard the group. “Bent Knee breaks new stylistic and temperamental ground,” declared Steve Smith of The Boston Globe. Other media outlets worldwide have reacted with similar enthusiasm, including NPR and the BBC, which have featured the band.
New Jersey rock band Gatherers is Matt Popowski, Adam Cichocki, Rich Weinberger, Anthony Gesa, and Rob Talalai and the will be opening up for Bent Knee. The band announced their signing to Equal Vision Records in March 2015, with the release of a bold new music video for “God Deluxe,” from their sophomore full-length Quiet World.
With Quiet World, Gatherers has created a truly unparalleled emotional and cathartic experience, enveloping listeners into a captivating world of anger, intensity, and frustration. Quiet World is the follow up to their first EP, Postcards (2012), and their debut full-length, Caught Between a Rock and a Sad Place (2013), both under the band’s original moniker of ‘Gatherer.’
Kicking the night off will be local group Bubblemath. Fifteen years in the making, Minnesota eclectic prog / avant-pop / art-math quintet Bubblemath’s sophomore sequence, Edit Peptide, provides a worthwhile wait with its non-formulaic formula of lively textures, wacky and virtuosic musicianship, hypnotically robust vocals and charmingly astute attitude. Blending in-your-face intricacy with eccentric experimentation, dense and poppy harmonies, symphonic vibrancy and tongue-in-cheek foundation, Bubblemath are clever and musically intricate, but despite their loyal adherence to high information-density compositional constructs, they make serious and seriously quirky music that doesn’t take itself too seriously and allows the fun to shine through.
Tickets are still available here.
