Yes, you know the name– legendary Modern English will be taking over The Turf Club in Saint Paul on Tuesday, August 31st!

Legendary British band Modern English have announced their upcoming North American fall headline tour. A reschedule of 2020’s After the Snow tour in which the band was to perform its classic 1982 album in its entirety (along with classics from its extensive catalog), the upcoming run will begin on Tuesday, August 31 at Turf Club in St. Paul, MN.

“We can’t wait to explode back on stage. It’s been a tough year for everyone and we want to bring some energy and excitement to everybody. We look forward to seeing you and all being together in the same room.“

Simply put, “I Melt With You” by legendary British band Modern English is one of the most iconic songs of the New Wave era. It garnered heavy rotation on the then-thriving Modern Rock radio format, MTV, and dance clubs across the globe, and was prominently featured in the classic 1983 film Valley Girl, starring a young Nicolas Cage.

On 1982’s After the Snow, the band’s sound evolved from the dark, moody, and challenging post-punk found on its debut, Mesh & Lace, to a more commercial and radio-friendly mix of synthesizers, guitars, catchy drumbeats, and singer Robbie Grey’s unmistakable vocals. As the title suggests, the icy sound featured on Mesh & Lace melted away on After the Snow to reveal more concise and potent songs, highlighted by “I Melt With You” which brought the band up from the underground to the mainstream.

Ganser will be opening up the show.  Equal parts Space Odyssey and Ghost World, Ganser released their debut LP Odd Talk in 2018 to favorable coverage from The New York Times, Billboard, and Stereogum. Building on their dissociative disorder namesake, the album’s tone vacillated between frenzied and contemplative, probing on questions of communication, intimacy, and avoidance.

Get there early so you don’t miss the sweet sounds of local legend DJ Jake Rudh. Jake Rudh is both a Minneapolis club and radio DJ hosting “Transmission” the program heard on 89.3 The Current every Thursday night at 10pm. Jake’s worked in music for over 30 years including Capitol Records, NPR and Twin Cities alternative favorites REV 105 and Radio K. Having been voted “best club DJ” in the Twin Cities for ten straight years by the readers of City Pages magazine, he brings the varied mix of the club nights to the airwaves each week with a different theme to his show.
