Temples at First Avenue 5/29/2015

The last time British psych rockers Temples played the Twin Cities they had to be moved from the smaller Turf Club to the First Avenue Main Room. This time around they were booked in the right venue from the start. First Ave was not quite sold out and Friday’s lineup brought out a diverse crowd spanning several generations. The retro lineup also brought out the 70s fashion statements: Glitter boots, dye tied shirts and even a few bell bottoms.

Opening acts Chatham Rise and Fever the Ghost set the mood perfectly (look for pics and reviews soon) and DJ Jake Rudh kept the crowd entertained doing what he does best, expose them to cool music they missed or have forgotten about.

Temples opened with “Sun Structures” and quickly took command of stage and audience. The band sounded tight and music seemed to flow effortless. They quite look the part and I had to keep myself from looking for Fembots and doing a bad Austin Powers impersonation. Temples’ set made for a great end to a entertaining evening in the past.
