“Deep, dark sea folk.” – No, that is not a Disney spin off from either Little Mermaid or Pirates of the Caribbean. It’s how Christa Lawler of the Duluth News Tribune described Superior Siren, an all-female Eerie Folk project created on the shores of Lake Superior in Duluth, Minnesota. The music vexes listeners with alluring vocals, haunting melodies, and mesmerizing blends of strings and percussion. Superior Siren is lead by singer-songwriter and guitarist Laura Sellner. Since her solo debut in 2012, the musician has continued to captivate audiences with songs of unfeigned honesty and heartfelt emotions. In 2015 Sellner joined forces with cellist Rachel Gobin, bassist Nyssa Krause, and drummer Emma Deaner to craft a dark and raw folk sound.

We saw them live a couple of years ago at First Avenue and quite enjoyed their set. Now they just released their self titled debut album and will share it with the Twin Cities at the Icehouse tomorrow 2/24 with a late show (doors at 10:30 PM) Tickets are available HERE

Opening for them will be another Duluth band, Coyote

Yes, I know, it’s supposed to be snowing…………….

C’mon it’s a Saturday Night, the streets will be quiet, and this could turn into a very nice walk or drive home. Snow in the air, music in your heart, a smile on your face……….
