Red Bull Sound Select brings The Scientist to the Triple Rock on 8/26

Red Bull Sound Select is back in the Twin Cities with another exciting show, this time at the Triple Rock Social Club. This time they are pushing the envelope a bit bringing two very cool national acts and pair them with Minneapolis’ Psymun. Tickets are available HERE

Hopeton Brown, better known as Scientist, reigns from Kingston, Jamaica, and is known as one of the originators of dub music, a genre that Billboard has dubbed “criminally underappreciated.” A protégé of King Tubby, one of the most influential names in the genre, Scientist burst into the reggae scene in the early 70’s with a reckless mixing style that seemed to outdo even Tubby’s wildest extravaganzas. Scientist quickly gained a reputation for his own distinctive mixing style, and over the course of the last few decades, has released a series of albums themed around functional achievements in fighting Space Invaders, Pac-Men, Vampires, and winning the World Cup.

Husband and wife musical duo, Peaking Lights, will support. Combining elements of dub, Krautrock, disco and psychedelic pop in their unique brand of cosmic music, their most recent double album, The Fifth State of Consciousness, was released on Two Flowers in June of 2017. The Los Angeles-based duo were among the friends that contributed to the 2013 Flaming Lips’ ‘The Time Has Come To Shoot You Down…What A Sound,” a reworking of the Stone Roses debut album.

Rounding out this exciting lineup is hometown hero and Red Bull Sound Select artist, Psymun. Most significantly known for the release of his 2014 Pink Label EP, Psymun quickly gained widespread attention, having worked with artists including K. Raydio, Spooky Black, Allan Kingdom and Sophia Eris. Last September, Psymun dropped off “Weakling,” a Brainfeedery slice of lo-fi funk that borrowed from Brandy’s “I Wanna Be Down.” His latest project, “EXACTER x2,” was released two months later.
