Okkervill River will be making a stop at The Turf Club on Monday, June 11th for a show that is sure to help you get through the inevitable case of the Mondays. Okkervil River is an American rock band led by singer-songwriter Will Sheff. Formed in Austin, Texas in 1998, the band takes its name from a short story by Russian author Tatyana Tolstaya set on the river in St Petersburg. They began as a trio made up of Sheff and friends he had met in his native state of New Hampshire but, over time, have gone through many lineups. Their newest album and eighth full length release, ‘In The Rainbow Rain’ came out in late April. This Monday night show is sure to be full of some of everyone’s tried and true favorites along with some glimpses into their upcoming release.Okkervil River shared the first song from In The Rainbow Rain back in February, the lovely and caustic “Don’t Move Back To L.A.” The song’s title gives away the plot: “A bunch of my best friends all moved to LA and I was really sad about it so I wrote a song about how I didn’t want them to leave…” Sheff said of the tune. “I think the song is also kind of about my own deep and long-held desire to get the hell out of New York City.”

Star Rover will be opening up the night. Star Rover is as much an engine for collaboration as it is a band. Since forming in 2013 over a love of John Fahey’s music, the duo has recorded and toured with a long and wide ranging cast of musicians: Sam Amidon, Daniel Rossen, Larkin Grimm, Benjamin Lazar Davis, Jesse Harris, Petra Haden, Tiago Iorc, Ricardo Dias Gomes (Caetano Veloso), and many others. They’ve toured in Asia, Europe, and South America, and played hundreds of shows in New York City, developing a repertoire of melodic-psychedelic songs and a rhythmically aggressive, telepathic improvisational language.

Tickets are still available here.
