The weekend ended with a raucous time at First Ave. Minneapolis’ own Motion City Soundtrack headlined a great lineup.

State Champs
The Averill Park, NY band just released their new album “Around the World and Back” last week and fans enjoyed their new material. Their set was fast paced, energetic and got the crowd nicely warmed up. Look for their return to First Ave in 2016 headlining their own tour.

The Wonder Years
We covered The Wonder Years a few months ago playing Warped Tour and they are as charismatic indoors as they are at an open air festival. The band released their current album “No Closer to Heaven” in June of this year and it has been doing quite well for them, including a #1 spot on the Billboard Vinyl Album charts. Frontman Daniel Campbell certain got his exercise for the day, he must have stepped on and off the platform at the edge of the stage well over 100 times.
A great moment was when Campbell shared that he learned about First Avenue from a Hold Steady song “Barely Breathing” “Summer ’88 was all heat and intensity, saw The Youth Of Today at 7th street Entry”, so he always knew about First Ave but never thought he would actually get to play there. As much as I enjoy the much more common Prince references, it was great for him to shine a light on the wide range or bands that have played here.

Motion City Soundtrack
The Minneapolis based 5 piece band just released “Panic Stations” in September and their tour will take them all over North America in the next several weeks. Opening with their classic “Everything is alright” and moving on to new material with “Anything at all”. One fun aspect of seeing local bands it that there are usually little kids with oversized hearing protection and last night proved no exception. The crowd knew all the lyrics and sang along. Justin Pierre recalled a few memories from his days in the audience at First Ave rather than on stage. Overall Motion City Soundtrack delivered a great set.
