Everything is better in Australia, well at least it seems that way these days. I can say, pretty much every band I am obsessing over these days seems to be from Australia (or New Zealand). It’s always hard when you fall in love with a band from overseas because you’re not sure if you’ll have the chance to catch them in the States, at least not for a while.
Well lucky for us – Sydney-based trio Middle Kids is in the middle of a sprawling United States tour. They’ll be stopping at the iconic 7th Street Entry next Thursday, September 7th. Tickets are just $15 and still available HERE.
Middle Kids was one of those bands I randomly stumbled across via an Australian photographer I follow on Instagram. After a quick browse through Middle Kids Instagram and a listen on Spotify I was instantly hooked on their feel good, garage rocky sound. Frontwoman Hannah Joy’s voice has a way of sticking to your soul – they have a sound you can’t quickly forget.
Turns out I’m not the only feeling the Middle Kids love – this three piece has already grabbed the attention of some major industry voices. Stereogum so astutely describes their sound, “the sort of tracks that seem simple on the surface but reveal new flashes of brilliance with each pass, often in the form of an artfully slashing guitar riff or a passionately bellowed vocal from lead singer Hannah Joy.” They even got a major nod from Billboard calling their EP, “something we can’t seem to shut off.”
