When it comes to First Avenue shows, there is a progression for bands. Usually they start at the Entry, move onto the Turf Club, then the Fine Line, and finally the coveted Main Room spot. Well, Margaret Glaspy forced them to throw logic out the window. Tickets for her show at the Entry were selling so well, it got moved to the Main Room on April 5. Tickets are available HERE

Emotions and Math is not simply the name of Margaret Glaspy’s debut album. That expression drills right to the heart of the New York singer-songwriter’s proper introduction, a mission statement both artistic and personal. On its surface, the title track talks about being a touring musician and figuring out how to see your partner, looking at the calendar and calculating how you’re going to spend time together. But Emotions and Math, which ATO Records released on June 17, 2016, also sums up an epiphany she had while making the record.

Supporting her will be Buck Meek co-founding member and lead guitarist of the critically acclaimed indie rock band Big Thief. Buck Meek’s songs are for the lost dogs of honest mechanics, good guys and girls born into a life of crime, runaways, snow spirits, the ghosts of Central Park, unsung diving-board stars, the affection shared through gambling, and so on. Bred in Texas, more bread in New York City, Meek spins outlaw ballads and quotidian fairy tales into a yarn, with Adam Brisbin on guitar (Jolie Holland, Sam Evian, Katie Von Schleicher), Mt. Davidson on bass (Twain, The Low Anthem, Spirit Family Reunion), and Austin Vaughn on drums (Here We Go Magic, Luke Temple, Sam Evian).
