Do you remember when Macklemore came out with this “Thrift Shop” song and everyone loved it but also thought there was no longevity in his shtick? Well, have I got news for you. Macklemore is relevant now more than ever and his sold out show coming up on Thursday, November 2nd at The Palace Theater is just proof of that. Macklemore is one of those artists that has bridge the gap between mainstream and indie leaving a wide array of fans. Having seen him multiple times now, it’s easy to say that he is one of the most energetic performers I have ever seen and, even though he has easily surpassed the “superstar” status, he still has a heart that is laid out on stage nightly for the world to see. His honesty and conviction that is conveyed through the microphone and his body language is only the icing on the cake that is his catchy music with powerful messages. His newest album “Gemini” just came out a month ago but has already turned into a staple in my daily playlist. I mean, with references to the iconic First Avenue in Minneapolis (on his song “Good Old Days” (ft. Kesha)) how can you not love this man. As mentioned, not only is Macklemore a rapper, but he’s also an activist of sorts using his platform to talk about things that matter including LGBTQ rights and addiction. Macklemore has partnered with Plus1 so that $1 from every ticket goes to advance racial and social justice through the M&RL Equity Fund. Nothing short of an inspiration, Macklemore is sure to leave you touched and feeling inspired. If you didn’t get tickets, I honestly feel bad for you but this new album proves that Macklemore isn’t going anywhere anytime soon so hopefully you’ll get another chance soon!
