Liz Phair and Soccer Mommy To Play The Turf Club On 6/4

Liz Phair is bringing Girly Sound to Guyville to the Turf Club Monday June 4th! If you are not excited about this, then something may be wrong with you!

Liz Phair’s deeply clever and often brutally candid songs have been commanding ears and raising eyebrows ever since she started writing them. Her 1993 debut studio album Exile in Guyville was released to acclaim; it has been ranked by Rolling Stone as one of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, by Pitchfork as one of the 100 Greatest albums of the 90’s.

It has been 25 years since the release of Exile in Guyville and she and Matador Records decided to release a boxset retrospective of her titled Girly Sound to Guyville which includes a remastered version of her Girly Sound demo tapes along with the remastered Exile in Guyville and a ton of other surprises! The Girly Sound demos alone are worth the price of admission.

And you might want to show up early to the Turf Club because Soccer Moms Sophie Allison will be performing a solo set to open up the night.

If you forgot or were planning to get tickets at the door, well I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news for ya! This show is SOLD OUT!!!  But do keep and eye on First Ave’s social media, there often are some last minute tickets available.

But fret not people. Liz just announced a new tour called Amps on The Lawn Tour! And she is bringing that tour back up here to First Ave on September 15th. So if you snoozed on this show, I highly recommend you jump on those tickets ASAP.

Opening for her will be Soccer Mommy, who at age 20 wasn’t even born when the album was released.  Sophie Allison – released her critically acclaimed debut album Clean via Fat Possum earlier this year. Since the album’s release she has been touring non-stop with tons of sold-out headline shows and support tours with some of her favorite artists.

Following a series of DIY Bandcamp recordings and last year’s Collection, Clean is Allison’s journey out of her bedroom and into the studio with a full band and an incredible record produced by Gabe Wax (War On Drugs, Deerhunter, Beirut) and mixed by Ali Chant (Perfume Genius, PJ Harvey). “I’d never made a full album before, just EPs and random tracks thrown together. I wanted it to be a lot more cohesive than the rest of the stuff that came before,” explains Allison. The result is Clean – the cohesive record Allison dreamt of making, and an album that presents Soccer Mommy as a singular artist, wise beyond her years, with an emotional authenticity of her own. It’s no wonder such a masterful record landed at #1 on the NACC College Radio chart, #1 on Spinitron chart, #7 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart, #13 on Billboard’s Vinyl chart, and #79 on Billboard’s Top Album chart.
