Styx will be appearing at the Island Event Center in Treasure Island at Welch MN on Saturday, December 30. The current version of the band consists of Tommy Shaw, James “JY” Young, Lawrence Gowan, Todd Sucherman and Ricky Phillips (along with the occasional surprise appearance by original bassist Chuck Panozzo). Styx has performed more live concerts since ’99 than all of the previous years of its career combined. Also since 1999, the band has had two Super-Bowl appearances, Pollstar Box Office chart-topping tours with Def Leppard, Journey, Boston, REO Speedwagon, Bad Company (to name only a few), two more studio albums and no end in sight.
The band was originally formed in 1970. Members have left and some have come back, but Styx still sounds as good as ever. In 2017, Styx released their 16th studio album titled The Mission. Styx is best known for the hit songs “Lady”, “Come Sail Away”, “Babe”, “Boat on the River”, “The Best of Times”, “Too Much Time on My Hands”, “Renegade” and “Mr. Roboto”. Other major hits include “Show Me the Way” and “Don’t Let It End”. Styx has had 4 consecutive albums certified multi-platinum by the RIAA, including three Triple-Platinum albums—The Grand Illusion (1977), Pieces of Eight (1978) and Paradise Theatre (1981)—and one Double-Platinum album—Cornerstone (1979). They have had 16 top 40 singles in the US, 8 of which hit the top 10.
