Yesterday, Kurt Vile’s current single “Pretty Pimping” hit #1 on the chart the matters to his local audience, The Current’s Chart Show. As luck would have it, that was the same day as his show at Mill City Nights.
Luke Roberts
First opener Luke Roberts, is a Americana singer based out of Nashville. His set was low key, soothing and any stress the audience may have brought from work were a distant memory by the time he was done.
Waxahatchee
Founded by singer-songwriter Katie Crutchfield in 2010 Waxahatchee released it’s 3rd album earlier this year. A change of pace from Luke Roberts their set was livelier and peaked my interest.
Kurt Vile
From a photographer’s point of view shooting Kurt is a bit like having a portrait session with cousin it. One has to pay close attention not to miss his nose or the occasional eye poking out from behind his hair. His set started with song from his current album “b’lieve i’m goin down”. The audience was clearly familiar with his work Vile did not disappoint delivering a balanced performance mixing in older material.
