In conjunction with the 8th annual SOUNDSET Festival in Minneapolis, MN, photographer Dan Monick and Rhymesayers Entertainment, along with curator Kristoffer Knutson, are pleased to present the pop-up exhibition Headshots (Lightning Blend) RSE20 by Dan Monick. This special exhibition in the former First Tech space at 2640 Hennepin Avenue South, just doors down from Fifth Element in Uptown, features exclusive behind-the-scenes photographs from Rhymesayers’ 20th Anniversary show held at Target Center in December 2015 along with classic work shot for the label and never before seen images found on lost rolls of film – processed just this year. Select prints will be available for sale as well as a limited edition zine hand-made by the photographer for the event.

Showing for one weekend only, the exhibition will help kick-off SOUNDSET weekend with a reception Friday, May 27th from 6-9pm. Fans and visitors are encouraged to continue their evening at CO EXHIBITIONS for a special graffiti inspired gallery show (Erotic City) highlighting the work of live painters appearing at SOUNDSET along with DJ sets and refreshments from 7-11pm – more information can be found at www.soundsetfestival.com

Dan Monick’s history with Rhymesayers extends back nearly two decades, starting musically as Monick’s old band Lifter Puller shared bills and collaborated with Atmosphere in the 90’s. Monick began photographing the group and soon the whole crew – with many of those images represented in the book ‘Seven Years with Atmosphere and Rhymesayers’ released by Gingko Press in 2010. Originally from Minneapolis, Monick moved to Los Angeles in 2001 where he has continued to work successfully as a photographer and director both editorially and commercially, notably shooting Minnesota’s own unique Blu Dot catalogs for the past 9 years. Headshots (Lightning Blend) RSE20 marks an artistic return to Minneapolis for the photographer after having presented ‘Pictures Of People And Things I Take Pictures Of Taking Pictures Of People’, his solo exhibition at Soo Visual Art Center in 2007. Currently, Monick co-runs CASH MACHINE, an installation/project space in Los Angeles and is a partner in F/S Press, the independent zine/book publisher established in 2012.
