Yes, Thursday, October 10th is going to be a bit insane in downtown Minneapolis with the arrival of Trump for a rally at The Target Center but that shouldn’t scare you away from checking out Ballyhoo! just across the street at First Avenue.

Hailing from Aberdeen, MD, Ballyhoo! has spent the last decade grinding away relentlessly on the road while refining their reggae-infused punk rock sound. Appealing to fans of all ages, their seamless blend of island vibes, high-energy rock, and catchy melodies have set them apart from the pack. They’ve sold over 100k records internationally, and are currently celebrating nearly 15 million Spotify streams of their song “Walk Away.”

Ballyhoo! has toured with bands such as 311, Dirty Heads, Iration, and Less Than Jake to name a few, as well as having completed two full Vans Warped Tours in 2012 and 2016. 2018 tour highlights include full tours with Fortunate Youth in the Spring and Reel Big Fish in the Fall, as well as a successful nationwide Summer headlining tour. The band’s 2017 album, girls, debuted at #1 at iTunes Alternative featuring songs like “Mixtape” & “Blaze This Weed.”

2018 began with the January release of their stand-alone single “This Chick is Wack” (ft Eric Rachmany of Rebelution and the Reel Big Fish horn section). Several more singles led up to the September release of their 7th studio album, Detonate, a darker and lyrically visceral snapshot of life happening. Their music has appeared in numerous surf/skate videos and compilations and a few feature films over the years.

Opening up the show is Artikal Sound System. Artikal Sound System is a reggae band from Delray Beach, Florida. Blending roots and modern sounds under smooth female vocals, they put their efforts towards bringing love, good vibes and a dancing mood wherever they go. The band features Logan Rex, Fabian Acuña, Chris Montague, Adam Kampf, and Chris Cope.

Kicking things off is Fayuca. Phoenix, Arizona based, Fayuca, is a Reggae-Rock/ Latino group, fronted by founding member, Gabo. Their sound shifts through genres while blending modern-reggae melodies with Latin percussion, tied seamlessly by razor guitar riffs and progressive rock breakdowns. Their music has been featured on MTV, Univision, FOX Sports and other popular TV networks. Fayuca’s instrumental, La Venganza, was hand picked by movie director Robert Rodriguez to be used as the main title theme to El Rey Network’s original series, MATADOR.
