Just having released their 2nd full length album “After It All” Durham, NC folk rockers Delta Ray played First Avenue Tuesday Night. A 6 piece band with a violin player a reinforcement they made full use of real estate on stage.
Opening with the wistful “The Dream” they transitioned quickly to the much more energetic “Outlaws” got the crowd going and by the third song the audience was singing along. An early highlight was “Bethlehem Steel” a song dedicated to the Hölljes siblings father. Delta Rae went acoustic for “The Meaning of it All”. Throughout their show singers Brittany Hölljes and Elizabeth Hopkins employed a variety of percussion instruments.
First Avenue’s special magic was not lost on the group. Between songs the band remarked that the venue felt bigger and more energetic than larger venues that they had played. Delta Rae delivered a memorable show. Give them a couple of return visits and we will have to start talking about getting their name on one of the Stars that line the outside of First Ave.
