Death Cab For Cutie Invading Palace Theatre 10/5 and 10/6

I’ve seen a lot of bands over the years and my bucketlist is dwindling but I am so excited to finally be crossing Death Cab for Cutie off that list! They will be at The Palace Theatre in Saint Paul on Friday, October 5th and Saturday, October 6th for two beautiful nights of music. Death Cab for Cutie is an American alternative rock band formed in Bellingham, Washington in 1997. The band is composed of Ben Gibbard, Nick Harmer, Jason McGerr, Dave Depper, and Zac Rae. Death Cab for Cutie rose from being a side project to becoming one of the most exciting groups on the indie rock scene of the ’00s, with their emotive songwriting and cross-genre sound landing somewhere between indie and emo. They have been nominated for eight Grammy Awards, including Best Rock Album for their most recent release, 2015’s Kintsugi. Their ninth studio album came out earlier this year and has been just about all I’ve been listening to. Come on out to hear some old favorites along with new obsessions!

Kicking off both shows will be Charly Bliss. Though Charly Bliss has been a band for over half a decade, the path that led to their first full-length record, Guppy, has been anything but straightforward. As the story goes, the band officially started when frontwoman Eva Hendricks and guitarist Spencer Fox, both just 15, crossed paths at a Tokyo Police Club show in New York City, but the ties within the band go much deeper than that. “It’s kind of insane and hilarious,” says Eva, “Sam is my older brother, so obviously we’ve known each other our whole lives, but all of us have been connected to each other since we were little kids. Dan Shure and I dated when we were in our early teens and he and Spencer went to summer camp together. Dan and I broke up years ago, but eventually he’d become our bass player. The reason we all get along so well has to do with the fact we share this ridiculous history. We are all deeply embedded in each other’s lives.”

Friday night’s show is sold out but tickets are still available for Saturday’s performance here.
