Beast In Black and Striker at the Fine Line – TICKETS

2021 is a rather grim year for mankind: people not being allowed to meet, having to keep distance and only being able to stay in touch online, but there’s always been a glimpse of hope – at least for fans of powerful heavy metal anthems. At a small place called Sound Quest Studio, international heavy metal quintet BEAST IN BLACK – Anton Kabanen (guitarist and band founder), Yannis Papadopoulos (vocals), Kasperi Heikkinen (guitars), Mate Molnar (bass) and Atte Palokangas (drums) – have moved even closer together to complete the ominous third chapter of their BEAST-like musical trilogy, that comprises all chapters of Kabanen’s musical path – fittingly titled Dark Connection.

After the superb success of their first two records – their debut Berserker (2017) and its follow up From Hell With Love (2019), both platinum-certified in Finland, and the latter of the two also hitting the top 10 of the German album chart – sharp riffs and hyper-catchy choruses are still the dominating elements of the group’s sound. Elements that have allowed the band to cultivate battalions of listeners all over the world. BEAST IN BLACK kick-started their live career with a couple of tours alongside well-known acts such as RHAPSODY, as well as a notable European arena run with symphonic metal masters NIGHTWISH that paved the way to their very own, mostly sold-out headline gigs. A memorable concert in front of 4,500 enthusiastic metalheads from all over the globe at Helsinki’s Ice Hall in December 2019 built the grand finale of their From Hell With Love touring cycle – just 10 months after performing for an ‘only’ 1,500 person strong audience in the same city! But that’s enough words for now about the quintet’s still young history…

Blending classic heavy metal, hard rock, and 80’s hair metal, Striker have been making shredtacular anthems since 2007. The band has toured multiple times across Europe and North America along with festival appearances at 70,000 Tons of Metal, Bang Your Head Festival (Germany), and more to add to their almost 1000 shows performed in their decade-plus career. The band has been honoured with multiple Best Album awards in their home country of Canada from the JUNO Awards, Western Canadian Music Awards, and the Edmonton Music Awards. Since their inception, Striker has released six studio albums Eyes in the Night (2010, Iron Kodex), Armed to The Teeth (2012, Napalm), City of Gold (2014, Napalm), Stand in the Fire (2016, Record Breaking), Striker (2017, Record Breaking), and Play to Win (2018, Record Breaking).

Rina Sawayama at  First Avenue – TICKETS

London-based pop artist Rina Sawayama released her debut full-length, SAWAYAMA, on April 17, 2020 via Dirty Hit. Along with the LP news, Sawayama has shared her new song “Comme des Garçons (Like the Boys),” about which she said in a statement:

“When I was writing this song I wanted on one hand to lyrically explore the idea of people having to adopt negative male tropes to appear confident, whilst on the other sonically paying homage to the early 2000s dance tracks that made me feel confident. The idea that the socially acceptable version of confidence is in acting ‘like the boys,’ otherwise as a woman you get called a bitch—but in the club, we reclaim the word ‘bitch’ as a sign of ultimate confidence (‘yes bitch,’ ‘work bitch’). I wanted to sit these two together and make a club fashion banger that makes you feeling like THAT bitch whoever you are.”

Rina Sawayama recorded SAWAYAMA in London and Los Angeles, working on the album with Danny L Harle, Clarence Clarity, Bram Inscore, Nate Company, Nicole Morier, Lauren Aquilina, and Johnny Latimer. She said of the record, “The album ultimately is about family and identity. It’s about understanding yourself in the context of two opposing cultures (for me British and Japanese), what ‘belonging’ means when home is an evolving concept, figuring out where you sit comfortably within and awkwardly outside of stereotypes, and ultimately trying to be ok with just being you, warts and all.”

Rotting Christ  at the Skyway – TICKETS

Headlining the ‘Devastation on the Nation” tour, Rotting Christ will be at the Skyway with Borknagar, Abigail Williams, Ghost Bath, and  Stormruler.

ROTTING CHRIST have reached another peak in their long career that now spans over more than three decades. The Greeks have literally stood the test of time. With a steady core line-up and their well-honed live delivery, ROTTING CHRIST are filling concert halls and reap enthusiastic crowd reactions wherever they go. This demonstration of love from their followers is not just driven by nostalgia as the band has managed to evolve and grow, while staying relevant beyond the classics with their highly acclaimed latest albums such as ‘Aealo’ (2010), ‘Κατά τον δαίμονα εαυτού’ (2013), and ‘Rituals’ (2016).

With the new offering ‘The Heretics’, ROTTING CHRIST are opening a brand new chapter. With confidence and skills derived from experience, each song represents its own sonic universe. Guitarist and vocalist Sakis Tolis in collaboration with his brother Themis on drums achieve a perfect balance of amalgamating their classic and unique style of riffing and rhythm with exciting new elements sprinkled in to keep their material exciting and fresh. The experience is enhanced by Jens Bogren’s equally clear and transparent yet also massive as well as sombre mix and mastering at his widely renowned Fascination Street Studios (AMORPHIS, BORKNAGAR, MOONSPELL, DEVIN TOWNSEND, and many more).
