Cool Shows Next Week 1/13 – 1/19

Monday 1/13

The Cactus Blossoms Residency at the Turf Club – TICKETS

With Jack Klatt

Blood Harmony. Whether it’s The Beach Boys, Bee Gees or First Aid Kit, that sibling vocal blend is the secret sauce in some of the most spine-tingling moments in popular music. The Cactus Blossoms – Minneapolis-based brothers Page Burkum and Jack Torrey – offer compelling evidence that this tradition is alive and well, with a deceptively unadorned musical approach that offers “creative turns of phrase, gorgeous harmonies, and an ageless sound” (NPR All Things Considered), not to mention spine tingles aplenty.

Friday 1/17 and Saturday 1/18

Kassi Ashton (opening for Jordan Davis)  at the Varsity – TICKETS

A second show has been added.

Kassi Ashton has brought a whole new attitude to country music since her arrival in 2017, and has blessed us with her confessional and catchy storytelling on tracks like the critically acclaimed “California, Missouri”. She wowed audiences while opening for Maren Morris on “GIRL: The World Tour,” all the while releasing new music like her upbeat anthem “Field Party.” She’s continued to play festivals too, performing at CMA Fest, Bonnaroo, Cash Fest, and more.

Sunday 1/19

The Jolly Pops at the Parkway – TICKETS

It’s Bacon the Pig’s birthday party and The Jolly Pops want to celebrate!

A special afternoon of live music for the entire family—Kids music that parents will love!

Children’s music and entertainment group, The Jolly Pops, are based in Minneapolis and founded by Billy Hartong, sometimes known as “Mr. Billy Goat.” A faculty member specializing in early childhood music education at the MacPhail Center for Music, Hartong founded The Jolly Pops after spending a decade touring with the acoustic rock band, Breaking Laces.

The Jolly Pops’ debut album, “I Didn’t Do It!” (2014), was followed by “We Are Happy Dads” (2018). Critics rave about the band’s “humorous approach that at some times reminds you of the titans Weird Al and Flight of the Conchords…a sheer bundle of joy for not only the little ones, but the entire family.”

Mr. Billy and his Minneapolis collective of dads will take you on a musical adventure, weaving together songs that delight audiences of all ages. Performing classics-in-the-making like  “Bouncy House” and “Picnic Place,” get “Coo Coo Crazy Nutz” and put some “Spinning Rims on the Minivan.” They even have a song called “Minecraft Steve” which will make the older brothers and sisters say, “Hey, these guys aren’t bad!”
