Have you been looking for a way to mix your love of all things nerdy and hip-hop music? Come on out to The Skyway Theatre- Studio B on Wednesday, May 1st to catch MC Lars, MC Frontalot, and MegaRan do exactly that!

MC Lars is the creator of post-punk laptop rap and lit-hop, which he has extended and powered into a fusion of rap, punk, rock, ska, pop and other genres. He is post-modern — combining his music with powerful and present lyrics, and packing concert venues with raps about everything from the iGeneration to Guitar Hero to Edgar Allen Poe to Game of Thrones, the Simpsons and cyberbullying. He speaks to and for people of all ages, lifestyles, and perspectives, and is a story-teller, covering love, life, loss, confusion, and hope. He does so with energy and wit, joined with a strong sense of humor and perspective. He tours in the US, the UK and the rest of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. He is a DIY Indie artist and a number of his albums have been funded by his fans through Kickstarter, at record-breaking levels. His work (albums, EPs, and music videos) includes collabs with a wide range of musicians – among them, “Weird Al” Yankovic, KRS-One, Sage Francis, Watsky, Mega Ran, Jaret Reddick of Bowling for Soup, Wheatus, the Matches, Ash Wednesday of Hand Job Academy, Kool Keith, Spose, mc chris, MC Frontalot, YT Cracker, Schäffer the Dark Lord, Beefy and K.Flay. Lars teaches and lectures, too, and his songs are used by fellow teachers in classrooms throughout the US. He has presented on TEDx and at numerous colleges and high schools.

Front’s just this middle-aged nerd who spends a lot of time peering into his computron. He used the term ‘nerdcore hip-hop’ to describe his home-recording rap hobby (through a song of the same name) in 2000. Later, with the help of his live band, he morphed the hobby into a surprisingly sustainable music career. Now he’s been doing it full-time for about ten years, and a vast roster of other dorky rappers have seen fit to join the subgenre. Some of them are considerably better at it than he is! Check them out.

Random, aka Mega Ran, aka RandomBeats… Teacher, Rapper, Hero. Guinness World Record Holder. When LA Weekly said that Ran’s “fanbase and niche audiences are growing at a rate not seen since Tech N9ne,” they meant it. A former middle school teacher, Mega Ran (formerly Random) blends education, hip-hop and gaming in amazing new ways, penetrating the farthest reaches of the galaxy with his unique rhyme style and electric performances. Ran cut his teeth in the city of Philadelphia as a moonlighting emcee and producer, performing, freestyle rapping, producing and later engineering at a studio. After relocating to Phoenix, competing in the Scribble Jam emcee battle championships and taking an early exit, Ran almost quit before he was even started, when a creative lightning bolt struck, and a fire was lit.
