It broke my heart a little bit to tell my parents that I wouldn’t be coming home for Thanksgiving this year. When they asked why I made up something about work is busy and I can’t find a cat sitter and a whole lot of other excuses but, the truth is– I just didn’t want to miss seeing Grieves at First Avenue on Friday, November 24th.
Benjamin Laub, better known as Grieves, is a 33 year old hip-hop artist based in Seattle but with a very Twin Cities feeling to him. As a member of Rhymesayers, Grieves’ ties to the Twin Cities are huge but it feels like he doesn’t come to town quite enough. That’s why this Black Friday show is such a big deal. Having just released his fifth full length “Running Wild” earlier this year, his set is sure to contain some new hits along with some tried and true favorites that date back to his 2007 release “Irreversible”. Having seen Grieves a couple of times now, I look forward to his electric energy and sheer power behind the microphone. This show is sure to beat out fighting with the Black Friday crowds so grab a ticket and come!
Opening the night will be ProbCause with his hip-hop mixed with EDM beats that is sure to have the crowd going wild. Local favorites Sean Anonymous with DJ Name, and the one and only DJ Fundo will also be opening.
