Ben Wendel is a virtuosic jazz saxophonist and composer whose ‘Seasons’ pieces first gained notoriety as YouTube videos. The pieces, of which there are- unsurprisingly- 12, are each performed with a different collaborator and are meant to invoke the feeling of each season. For example, ‘October’ is a beautiful, pointillistic piece (thanks to Gilad Hekselman’s virtuosic guitar chops) that invokes images of leaves spiraling in the brisk autumn air. Not surprisingly, Wendel put together the ‘Ben Wendel Seasons Band’ which is comprised of some of his ‘Seasons’ collaborators: pianist Aaron Parks, bassist Matt Brewer, guitarist Gilad Hekselman and drummer Eric Harland. They kicked off a European tour this past fall, and are now playing Wendel’s ‘Seasons’ compositions in the U.S.! They will be braving the cold here in Minneapolis at the Parkway Theater on February 8th, 2019! This is one jazz concert you will absolutely not want to miss!
