Animals As Leaders Celebrate 10 Years At The Skyway Theatre On 5/15/19

Animals As Leaders are set to embark across North America for a 10 year anniversary tour.  “Don’t believe everything you hear. This is sound advice in the age of spin—especially when the source is Washington, D.C. Enter progressive metal outfit Animals As Leaders. The band’s name itself is perfectly suggestive of its impossible sound, which often must be seen to be believed. Acrobatic guitars and surgical polymetric drumming are frequently accompanied by otherworldly soundscapes in an unmatched marriage of technicality and groove. Their statement is bold, and they’ve made it without a (human) voice. In the decade since its inception, the trio—guitarists Tosin Abasi and Javier Reyes are joined by drummer Matt Garstka—have not only redefined the scope of instrumental music, but the limitations of their instruments themselves.”

The Contortionist will be main supporting band across all dates on this tour.  “The Contortionist represents fearlessness in musical expression, designed to please artist as much as audience. This band makes progressive metal music, anchored in the heavy sounds that first drew the individual players to the stage, yet unmoored by convention or expectation. For the entirety of their career, The Contortionist has proven capable of being been equally at home on tour with Deftones, Periphery, or Between The Buried And Me, thanks to their dynamic combination of metal’s blunt precision with the adventurous spirit of prog-rock heroes like Rush and King Crimson. The Contortionist integrates seemingly disparate worlds to create their own sound, with a focus on tone, vibe, color, and atmosphere.”

Buke and Gase will be the opener for the date in Minneapolis. “Buke and Gase embraced electronic music and embarked on a major refinement & modernization of their instrumental creations. They developed Arx, a device that revolutionized their performance by allowing them to trigger percussive sounds, change effects on their instruments, and control vocal harmonies with the punch of an arcade button. They have largely retired the buke (bass ukulele) and gass (guitar-bass). Their new album Scholars began not as the title of their new record, but a possible-new moniker for the band. The band have successfully reinvented themselves, challenging their songwriting, sound palette and performance. They’ve emerged with a more concise, electronic & emotional sound, in sync with our most forward-thinking contemporary artists. This is experimental music but catchy as hell and with a pop heart.”

Doors open up at 6:00pm for this 15+ show.  Tickets are still available here.
