Alison Moyet and I have a long history (although she may not be aware of it) spanning decades and generations. I was into Yazoo (know as Yaz in the US), her duo with Vince Clarke quite a bit and my kids were subjected to “Goodbye 70s” and “Situation” quite a bit on car rides. I followed her through her first solo albums but have to confess, she fell off my radar even though she continued to be active. When I found out she was releasing a new album “Other” this year and would be touring the US her Minneapolis show became a must see for me. She will be at the Fine Line Music Cafe on 9/20. The new album “Other” bursts with clarity, vitality and freshness, finding Alison at the top of her game – making exactly the adventurous music she wants to at this moment in time, with her voice and songwriting both intense, poetic and thought provoking.
Other was again catalyzed by Alison’s fruitful partnership with producer and song writing collaborator Guy Sigsworth, who (as well as having worked with Björk, Goldie and Madonna) also co-created her last album the minutes, which debuted at # 5 in the national UK charts and won international critical acclaim.
