Just how happy is Alex “Crankshaft” Larson with his new CD “Tied To The Word Behind Me”? Well, according to him “It’s the best f….ing thing I have ever done with my life!”
Hailing from rural, northern Minnesota and well known as a roots, rock and blues artist with a punk soul Crankshaft released his third full length album this fall. A planned CD release at First Avenue’s main room had to be rescheduled at the last minute, but the smaller Famous Dave’s may have turned out to be a perfect venue providing and intimacy and gritty feel well suited to his performance.
Supported by a drummer and a upright bass player, Crankshaft took the stage with the words “This is a song from Anoka County”. He played 3 45-minute sets and mixed his well known songs with material from his new CD. He dedicated one song “to the service industry” and the lyrics, we ain’t go not chicken and references to finger licking ribs fit quite well with the location. The audience was quite into the performance with dancing of all kinds. Overall a great way to spend a Friday Evening.
