I’m not sure what’s in the water in Nederland, CO but somehow this tiny town is home to 2 great folk / bluegrass bands. Elephant Revival and Yonder Mountain String Band. The latter will be playing First Avenue on Friday 10/29 as part of their North American Fall Tour. Tickets are still available HERE

Started in 1998 Yonder Mountain String band has played a key role in the Bluegrass Revival in the US in the last decade, but they are not limiting themselves to one genre. Influences from rock, reggae can be found and the band has been known to cover Ozzy Osbourne and Frank Zappa. Their current album “Black Sheep” was released in 2015.

Yonder Mountain String Band has always played music by its own set of rules. Bending bluegrass, rock and countless other influences that the band cites, Yonder has pioneered a sound of their own. With their traditional lineup of instruments, the band may look like a traditional bluegrass band at first glance but they’ve created their own music that transcends any genre. Dave Johnston points out “What could be more pure than making your own music.” Yonder’s sound cannot be classified purely as “bluegrass” or “string music” but rather it’s an original sound created from “looking at music from [their] own experiences and doing the best job possible.”

Opening for them will be Minnesota’s Pert Near Sandstone and Them Coulee Boys.
