One of the perks of being a concert photographer is that I get to see bands develop as artists and a performers. TCM covered Waters in October 2014 at the Varsity. They returned last Friday to open for Matt & Kim and having toured with them for the past several months has certainly rubbed off on Waters. Their show was more energetic, more interactive and more fun that I recalled.
Opening (after throwing some flowers in the audience) with “Over it” the five piece band set a pace that got the capacity crowd of 1250 ready for the main act. Waters’ set included a Taylor Swift Cover (Blank Space) that had the audience singing along. Fans had made a sing out of flowers and the band showed it off on stage.
The mood was quite upbeat and a bit reflective as this was their last show of this tour. Closing with their current single “I feel everything” (which has been getting decent radio play) Waters left the stage on a high note and their fans ready for more.
