The Icehouse in Minneapolis had a busy evening Sunday, as Vicky Emerson performed at the CD Release Party for her newest album Wake Me When the Wind Dies Down. With the album getting great reviews, it was no surprise to see the Icehouse fully booked with only a few standing areas open.

The evening kicked off with a beautiful, heartfelt performance by Annie Fitzgerald (click here for photos). This definitely set the tone and mood with the crowd. With a short break in between, many ordered drinks and even deserts. However, once Vicky hit the stage, all eyes were on her performance.

Playing recognizable favorites off the new album like ‘Long Gone’ and ‘Silhouette’, Vicky’s infectious voice seemed to have influence on the element of time. The music pulled you in and didn’t seem to let go. Her performance was solid and very fluid as songs seemed to flow beautifully together. Her band was comprised of well seasoned musical veterans, who truly delivered a class-A performance. If Vicky’s music was not enough, she added in a very personal touch with fun life experience stories including a classic story about her Guild guitar.

There are many artists that I review and cover, however Vicky’s latest album and performance really have all the right elements. Be sure pick-up the album and catch her live.
