Ty Segall Playing First Avenue 4/7

I am super excited to be able to cross Ty Segall off my bucketlist after his 4/7 show at First Avenue. Even though I’ve been listening to him for years and have completely fallen in love with his quirkiness, Saturday night will be my first chance to experience his music live.

Ty Segall has made whole records that wrestle with realities – fighting against some, pulling mightily to bring others into being. He keeps you guessing, bracing your skin with a welcome astringency, seeking to stem the bleeding with chunks and splashes of guitar, tight beats, audio-verite toilet smashes, a Wurlitzer electric piano in a jam, blazing harmonies, and LOTS of songs to sing. There’s no concept beyond that; finding the right places to be is a momentary thing. Ty Segall is the sum of his songs – and about getting the free. The free to be! With ten solo full length albums out that date back to 2008, you can be sure that Saturday night’s show will be full of sing-a-longs, b-sides, and the hits that you hadn’t heard in years. Take the great music and mix it with a dynamic live show and you are left with what may be an absolutely perfect Saturday night.

Opening the show will be The Bed Band. Ivan Antonio is The Bed Band. He lives down the street, but cosmically he’s more amongst the crystals, black magic, spells and skulls that inform his four-track, melted, twang. This is worbled psychedelic splatter for the fringe mind. This is The Dreamiest. Sun-baked, and back from Santa Fe, Ivan Antonio returns to Detroit deconstructing pop like a cacti drifter wafting off heatstroke.

Tickets are still available here.
