The New Pornographers just released their new album “Whiteout Conditions” last week on their own label “Collected Works” About the new album’s first single, NPR declares, “Hold on tight: it’s another relentlessly exuberant, propulsive jam from The New Pornographers. The latest in the band’s deep catalog of clever and addictive power pop is “High Ticket Attractions” with a video that can only be described as joyful mayhem.
Of the new record, founder and frontman A.C. Newman notes that, “At the beginning of this record, there was some thinking that we wanted it to be like a Krautrock Fifth Dimension. Of course, our mutated idea of what Krautrock is probably doesn’t sound like Krautrock at all. But we were thinking: Let’s try and rock in a different way.”
Their tour promoting the new album will be at First Avenue on 4/18. A few tickets are still available HERE.
Opening for them will be Waxahatchee. I would not count on tickets being available much longer. A favorite on The Current, The New Pornographers’ live show is fun to watch. We covered them the last time they were in town and I still recall the instructions from the local promoter “First 3 songs, no flash, and don’t get in Neko’s face”
