New York’s Sunflower Bean has been called “one of the buzziest bands” by SiriusXM’s College Radio Channel and resent played at in studio session there. They Just released their first full length album “Human Ceremony” and played First Avenue’s Entry yesterday.

The first band was Minneapolis’ Brilliant Beast, a well-established Shoegaze / Fuzz / Punk four-piece.  Their 2015 album “Dissolve” garnered quite a bit of praise. Their set was full of their signature dreamy styling but lively and engaging at the same time.

Weaves burst out of Toronto a couple of years ago and is about to release their debut album in a few weeks. The band centered on singer Jasmyn Burke has a unique approach to song writing. According to them their songs start off with voice memos which ten are “pumped full of insanity”. Their set was quirky and engaging.

Sunflower Bean is a young band with an impressive body of work (3EP and a full length album). Their sound is influenced by many styles but certainly has its own identity. There definitely was a punk undertone but they can turn around into a dream pop sound in a heartbeat. It was clear through the set that the trio has great chemistry and they certainly were a fun band to watch.
