Milky Chance at Mill City Nights 5/15/2015

The best duo to come out of Germany since Milli Vanilli…………I am sorry, I could not resist. In fact Milky Chance are as far removed from the that abomination as they can be. The duo made up of Clemens Rehbein (vocals and instrumentals) and Philipp Dausch (production and DJing) has been getting rave reviews for their debut album “Sadnecessary” which was released in Europe in 2013 and in the US in 2014. The band recently added a third member Antonio Greger.
For their first time in Minneapolis, the band sold out Mill City Nights for a 15+ show with an audience that spanned a wide age range. Their first song was played with minimal lights (much to this photographer’s frustration) set the tone Milky Chance’s performance well. The stage set up featured strong Native American elements with oversized dream catchers and wood carvings. The audience engaged quickly and “Flashed Junk Mind” was greeted with screams of joy.
The bands unique sound blends elements of folk, rock, electronic with a strong dose of Reggae thrown in that showed prominently in their performance. Overall a memorable first show in Minnesota for this German group.
