There are a million amazing shows this fall but I think the show at The Skyway Theatre on Saturday, October 5th takes the cake. Not only do you have Sum 41 headlining the show, you get Bowling For Soup, The Amity Affliction, Less Than Jake, The Plot In You, and Authority Zero. Yeah, you really can’t afford to not go to this show.
Sum 41 is a Canadian rock band from Ajax, Ontario, active since 1996. The current members are Deryck Whibley (lead vocals, guitar), Cone McCaslin (bass guitar), Dave Brownsound (guitarist), Frank Zummo (drummer) and Tom Thacker (guitar).
In 1999, the band signed an international record deal with Island Records. The band released their debut album, All Killer No Filler in 2001. The band achieved mainstream success with their first single from the album, “Fat Lip”, which reached number-one on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and remains the band’s most successful single to date. All Killer No Filler was certified platinum in the United States, Canada and in the UK. The band has since released three more studio albums: Does This Look Infected? (2002), Chuck (2004) and Underclass Hero (2007). All three albums have been certified platinum in Canada.
The Amity Affliction is a post-hardcore band originally from Gympie, Queensland. They have become one of the most well known hardcore bands in Australia through a strong touring ethic, a stunningly original sound and a commitment to creating a fun and exciting atmosphere within the scene.
Known for their cheeky take on pop-punk and melodic alt-pop, Texas four-piece Bowling for Soup found mainstream success in the early 2000s with their breakout fourth album, Drunk Enough to Dance, which earned a Grammy nomination for its hooky pop culture-referencing single “Girl All the Bad Guys Want.” Over the ensuing decade, the band continued to nurture a hardcore fan base, breaking the Billboard Top 40 with 2004’s A Hangover You Don’t Deserve and finding increased success in the U.K., where they became a touring mainstay.
Although formed in 1992 as a power pop trio with heavy punk leanings, Less Than Jake steadily transformed into a ska-inspired punk band with the addition of a horn section. Vocalist/guitarist Chris Demakes, bassist Shaun, and drummer/lyricist Vinnie Fiorello formed the first incarnation of the group, which took root in Gainesville, Florida.
The Plot in You is a rock band, formed in Hancock County, Ohio in 2010. Originally a side project of former Before Their Eyes member Landon Tewers, the group is composed of Tewers, guitarist Josh Childress, bassist Ethan Yoder and drummer Mathis Arnell. On June 15, 2017, The Plot in You parted ways with Stay Sick Recordings and announced their signing to Fearless Records and announced their fourth LP Dispose, which was released on February 16, 2018.
Since ’94 Authority Zero has brought their unique signature blend of anthemic melodic-punk and reggae to the masses. A lot has changed in the 20 plus years since the band got their start and they’ve found a way to persist and thrive in today’s ever-changing music world.
